Industry

A&B Cultural Consultants specializes in leading large corporate ventures through Section 106 compliance. Most notably Dr. Bob Mutaw oversaw a regional program for Verizon Wireless gaining compliance for more than 100 cell towers in the span of a few years. Only a few of these towers required more than aliterature review and file search, including one in Colorado Springs that was granted height exemption for compliance with a preservation of view ordinance.

We have extensive experience in coordinating projects with State Historic Preservation Officers in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, and work hard at streamlining large projects that necessitate strict deadlines.

Where issues may arise, we have specific experience working with Native American tribes with ancestral ties to the Pawnee and Thunder Basin national grasslands and the Medicine Bow areas.

Historic Property Owners/Historic Groups

Historic properties often present a dilemma to their owners, while preserving historical integrity can enhance value it can also present a barrier to modifying the property to its business need or, in the case of a home, its suitability for occupancy.

“Most of us simply aren’t trained to determine what is just old, and what actually is historically significant,” said Dr. Bob Mutaw, the founder of A&B Cultural Consultants. “Not making that distinction early in the process of applying for modification of potentially historical properties can lead to ongoing misconceptions that can delay a building modification for years.”

“For groups interested in historic evaluations, erroneous categorization can also be detrimental; leading to wasted volunteer time and possible friction with property owners where none need exist. At A&B, we consider our team experts in finding inexpensive solutions for such parties and involving communities of interest in ways that minimize conflict and maximize historical preservation results.”

A&B team members are well versed in all levels of photographic documentation that may be required through the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) or Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) standards, and have successfully documented hundreds of buildings, as well as completed submissions to the National Register of Historic Places.
